Job Purpose:

To coordinate and manage the end-to-end shipping process for imported and exported goods, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and timely delivery of components and machines to support operational requirements.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Shipping Coordination: Oversee the movement of goods from international and local suppliers. Coordinate with freight forwarders and clearing agents to ensure cargo is tracked and cleared efficiently.
  • Documentation Management: Prepare and verify all shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin. Ensure all records are maintained for audit purposes.
  • Customs Compliance: Ensure all imports and exports adhere to SARS customs regulations and tariff headings. Manage VOCs (Voucher of Correction) and acquittal processes where necessary.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and verify freight invoices and shipping charges against agreed rates. Identify cost-saving opportunities within the logistics chain.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between procurement, warehousing, and external logistics service providers to resolve delivery delays or discrepancies.
  • Reporting: Provide regular status reports on shipments in transit and highlighting potential risks to the supply chain.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • ​National Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • ​Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a shipping or international logistics environment.
  • ​In-depth knowledge of Incoterms 2020 and customs clearing procedures.
  • ​Proficiency in SAP (specifically MM or SD modules) is highly advantageous.
  • ​Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of Incoterms 2020 and SARS customs regulations is essential. Familiarity with South African Reserve Bank (SARB) rules and foreign exchange administration is also required to ensure legal compliance.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with SAP (specifically the Materials Management or Sales and Distribution modules) will make your application highly competitive.
  • Soft Skills: The role requires someone who is meticulous, highly organized, and capable of working under pressure. Since you will be the link between freight forwarders and internal teams, excellent communication and problem-solving skills are mandatory.
